When Vera asked me to be a contributor to Her Life Counts, I was honored. I absolutely LOVE her mission and knew immediately that God had brought us together for this divine purpose.
Hi! I’m Patty Gale and the founder – owner of Fear.less Girl Financial. As a certified personal finance educator, I help women in their 40’s and older overcome financial struggles and move toward clarity, peace and fear.less abundance.
My biggest passion is seeing women thrive financially, not for the sake of money, but so they have financial clarity and peace to find their true selves; to come out from the burdens of financial chaos and use their talents and gifts to share with the world. That, girlfriend, is hard to do when you’re under the weight of finance burdens.
It’s Not Really About the Money
Personal finances for women is usually never just about the money or the math. It’s so much more. There’s the emotional connections to the decisions surrounding money, not the money itself. And, for women 40+, if you’ve experienced a major life event such as divorce, job loss or unexpected death of a spouse, there is confusion, anxiety and fear of the financial unknown.
Perhaps we’ve been been in the same shoes. I’ve experienced being married, divorced, a single mom for 11 years, remarried, almost divorced a second time, career transition, job loss and financial disaster.
While my life looked great on the outside, I was a hot mess on the inside. During the years in financial survival mode, I felt more alone, isolated and frustrated than ever. I was like a volcano ready to explode. Maybe you can relate?
Then, when I started confiding into close girlfriends, I discovered more and more women in similar situations who are living lives of quiet financial despair. When I started talking, they felt free to open up and share their stories, too. All they needed was someone to start the conversation first.
Beyond Spreadsheets and Budgets
We have to move beyond budgets and spreadsheets if women are to feel empowered about their finances. Can we stop making people feel bad for making mistakes? I don’t believe in ‘tough love’ finance education and shaming people to get them to take action. We need to decide there’s no shame in past financial decisions. We can only start from today forward.
That’s why Fear.less Girl Financial is changing the conversations, education and advice around personal finance for women 40+ beyond budgets, spreadsheets and math to one of forgiveness, love and hope.
Here’s What’s Coming
We were all once little girls with big, beautiful dreams. And then life happens along the way. Perhaps we got married, had kids and put a career on the back burner. Maybe we unexpectedly found ourselves divorced, or experienced a job loss.
While we can’t prevent these things from happening, we can be better prepared and we can keep dreaming big. It’s never too late!
We’re going to be talking a lot about theses psychology behind the financial decisions we make, what happens when ‘life happens along the way.’
I hope you’ll join us!
P.S. Oh! I get asked a lot why the . (dot) in fear.less. The dot represents the separation between fear and less. It’s about becoming fearless and fearing less.
